About Far & Near Press
Far & Near Press is a small independent publisher of practical organizers for people who live a long way from where they grew up. Our first title is Just in Case, Abroad: US Edition, an “if something happens to me” binder for Americans living overseas.
The idea behind it is simple. When you live abroad, the information your family would need in an emergency is spread across two countries, and the people who would need it are often far away. Writing it down is not difficult, but it’s easy to put off, and most organizers assume your whole life is in one country. We wanted one built around the two-country life.
How we put it together
The general sections of the binder are written to work wherever you live, without assuming any particular country’s rules. The US sections, and the guides on this site, are based on official sources such as the U.S. Department of State, the IRS, FinCEN and the Social Security Administration, which we link to so you can check them yourself. The facts in the current edition were checked against those sources in October 2026. Government procedures change, so we review them before each new release, and the official source is always the final word.
We are not lawyers, tax advisers or financial planners, and nothing we publish is legal, tax or financial advice. The binder helps you organize information and wishes; it doesn’t replace a will or professional advice. Please read our disclaimer for more.
Far & Near Press is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. government or any government agency.
Guides
Alongside the binder, we publish free guides for Americans abroad on subjects like what happens when a U.S. citizen dies overseas, and how to make sure your family could reach your accounts.
